Plato’s Closet brings a fresh new retail experience to Barrhaven consumers

Today’s blog post comes courtesy of Jennifer, author of the Loafers and Polish blog. In today’s post, Jennifer profiles Plato’s Closet, a new fashion and clothing store in Barrhaven.

On May 9th Plato’s Closet opened its doors in the Barrhaven Marketplace. I was originally skeptical of this new consignment clothing store. Some consignment stores can be very particular in which brands they will accept, as a seller your profit can be disappointing, and as a consumer the prices can be similar to the malls. This is not that consignment store. Plato’s Closet is mainly geared towards teens and 20-somethings, male and female. This store gives consumers cash on the spot, with no appointment necessary. Plato’s Closet doesn’t create new trends, they help you shop the current trends at an affordable price. They generally buy items that have been in retail stores within the past 12 – 18 months.

I was invited by co-owners Mark and Stacey to come check out the store for myself, and I did… 3 times! I cannot get over the prices! As a self-diagnosed shopaholic I could not believe my eyes when I was finding items that I spent $50+ on for under $15. It can get expensive to be fashionable and trendy and this addition to Barrhaven will help our youth and young adults look and feel their best at prices they and their parents can afford.

Mark and Stacey, who have called Ottawa home for the last 18 years, have career histories in retail management, human resources consulting, and high tech fields respectively. They decided to open Plato’s Closet in Barrhaven for the proximity to their homestead in North Gower and their growing involvement within the Barrhaven community.

“We are so appreciative of the warm welcome that the Barrhaven community has offered and we look forward to growing in the area for many years to come.”

I was interested to learn that this store is a franchise. Co-owners Mark and Stacey first learned of the chain on a vacation with their two daughters, Paige & Katelyn, to Florida. And although this is the first Plato’s Closet in Ottawa, we’ve had their sister company Play It Again Sports in our community for quite awhile. I was surprised to learn this was a chain because sometimes franchises can feel cold and standard but the staff at Plato’s Closet are warm, helpful and can assist you with all your fashion needs.
