The Commotions release new Star Wars themed song and video

The Commotions have deep links to the Barrhaven community. Many of their members hail from Ottawa’s greatest suburb.

Today, they are releasing a new single (spoiler alert: it’s very catchy!) and video to celebrate one of their fondest childhood memories: Star Wars.

I asked the band how the song and video came about:

Star Wars has been a huge part of my life as well as my brothers. We literally grew up with the original trilogy. I can’t tell you how many weekends my brother and I would spent watching the trilogy on our Beta system. As we grew so did the Star Wars universe and the rest is history.

I have been thinking about writing a Star Wars themed song for quite some time but it wasn’t until the build-up to The Rise of Skywalker that I put my pen to paper. Being the musical director of my 11-piece soul band, The Commotions, I knew I wanted to write the song in a genre that I could perform the song live with my band. At this point I had a vague lyric concept and a rough idea for a chart and I brought what I had to my male vocalist and co-writer, Jeff Rogers (who is also a Star Wars fan). The song literally wrote itself at that point and we went into the studio last December to record the song. At the last moment we decided to wait on the release until the May The Fourth Celebrations. Jeff Rogers and I had so much fun writing the song and we hope it brings a smile to your face. May The Force Be With You All.

I hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did.

Have a great week – and stay isolated!
